If you’re going to be in North Texas this Saturday, pay special attention to what you’re about to read. The Belles of Texas have organized a portfolio of feminine excellence. They are calling the portfolio “The Bump It Mafia,” the bump it hair-do symbolizing their strength in unity. There are rarely portfolios stronger than what these ladies have to offer. The reception of celebration will be held at the Meme Gallery in Rubber Gloves, Denton, TX. Be there or don’t! (If you don’t, tears for years.)
Here is a collection of photographs, taken and edited by my friend Zack Huggins. I invited him to document the show because he documented my last solo show, and because he’s a total babe and a sweetheart. And a gentleman and a scholar!! He was smart to get a bunch of clean shots when the gallery was on the empty side in order to let the work pop off them dingy walls. Please enjoy, and google Zack’s name. Evidence of Denton creatives working together in the name of love and devotion.

LONG NIGHT (Taken with instagram)
a Denton graffiti blog lied about two local artists.
It is true that journalism, be it blogging or legitimate news sources, requires credible source information and not just mere assumption.
In this reblogged post from FuckYeahDentonGraffiti you can see how speculation has completely bred bullshit in the form of a blog from an anonymous author.
Hi, author.
Unfortunately you are entirely wrong. This “truth” you are sharing about Denton graffitti is an uninformed and incorrect assumption.
First, you credit only one artist, Mick. Great guy. To the left of Mick’s signature, as you may see, are the letters “TM.” This appears to be a tag from what can only be ANOTHER artist. Taylor McClure.
Taylor designed this mural. He calls it “BUS’NES TIME.” Mick and Taylor painted this collaborative piece based on one of Taylor’s drawings. They painted this wall as an excuse for Mick to get out of class. They used supplies from Voertman’s, benefitting a local business. Voertman’s donated this space to Mick and Taylor, benefitting local artists.
Neither Taylor nor Mick were paid for this endeavor. These two talented artists are seeking to add vibrancy to the city of Denton with the help of local small business owners.
Clearly, this mural was not, “paid for by the city as a strategy for combating graffiti.” In fact, you couldn’t be more wrong and I’m so disheartened that your assumptions are circulating in a way that will result in, as you put it, “effectively pitting mural artists against graffiti artists.” Shame on you. You have unwittingly defamed a genuine collaboration of local artists and local small business ownership. And you lied.
-Ally HoffmannAnother Denton mural. This is in the alleyway between Voertman’s/Subway and some apartments. The artist’s name is Mick Burson.
I’m not sure how I feel about these new murals. Of course they are beautiful and I’d rather see a painted mural than a blank wall, but these murals are paid for by the city as a strategy for combating graffiti, effectively pitting mural artists against graffiti artists.
I know the mural artists themselves probably don’t see it that way and certainly don’t have those intentions. This alley has always been a good spot for new graffiti and now it is being permanently occupied by these new murals. Naturally, graffiti artists usually don’t tag murals, so now this alley is taken. It makes me a little sad.
I don’t mean to put a sour perspective on this lovely mural. I really do like it, I just wish that the city didn’t use such underhanded tactics to combat community art.
No disrespect to Mick Burson. You did a great job.
